Cry God for Harry, England and St. George.
Happy St. George's Day!
Unfortunately, the English don't really celebrate this day. In fact, if you asked most of them, I doubt they would know when it was. It's a sad state of affairs.
Today is the Feast Day of St George, celebrated by the Christian Churches and in countries where he is the Patron Saint. Among those are Albania, Bulgaria, England, Ethiopia, Greece, Georgia, Portugal, Romania, and Syria, to name a few.
Saint George's Day is celebrated on 23 April, the traditionally accepted date of the saint's death in the Diocletianic Persecution.
St. Georgeโs Day was once a holiday and a feast day, but it declined when England joined Scotland in 1707.
To celebrate, you could have a traditional meal of English food: toad in the hole, fish and chips, or a roast dinner with all the trimmings. It doesn't say much about our cuisine, really.
Or there is a festival in Trafalgar Square, or watch or read about St. George and the Dragon.
Whatever you do, if you are English, be proud of it.
Happy St. George's Day, and post all things related to England and St. George.
