🥁🧸🧮Children’s Toys We Grew Up With🥁🧸🧮

Some of us were born just after the war, so our parents were far from rich, but we had toys.
Every child in the world should have a toy, but sadly, today, there are still some that haven't. We all appreciated out toys because we knew our parents were hard up and what we were given could not be discarded the next day. The main picture gives a good selection of the sort of toys we had

This was my toy phone

Think we all had one of these

As a child, we played with anything and everything, and many toys were homemade as money was tight. I remember my Dad making me my doll’s house one Christmas. It even had lights that turned on and off and a cooker that burnt meths!! OMG! He also made me a stage for a tin Muffin the Mule, which I do wish I had nowadays.
Parents used their initiative to find toys to keep us quiet, and it certainly wasn't a computer, tablet or mobile phone. In fact, I was 4 before we even got a television, and then that was only on for a few hours a day, but the kid's programmes were brilliant, with programmes like Bill and Ben, Andy Pandy, Rag Tag and Bobtail, to name a few.

My dolls House, which has got to be over 70 years old, it even had separate rooms

The chair and sofas were made out of wood, and the wardrobe was made out of match boxes. The little fridge even has food in it.

I think we all had a blackboard and chalk, which kept us quiet drawing, writing etc.

My toy phone was a pull-along one, and I would stop and phone everybody I knew, and I was convinced they answered and spoke to me. I had my teddy bear when I was 2 and loads of dolls during my childhood, including a black doll and a golliwog. I had a Jack in the box, a kaleidoscope that you turned to make pretty pictures, fuzzy felt that you made pictures out of on a board, and a Mr Potato Man, which I am sure you all had.

I lived in a flat, so there was no garden, just a yard, so Dad made me a swing to go in our long hallway. Also had books to read and books to colour in. So, did I miss out? No, not at all! I had a childhood unlike some of the kids today, who spend their lives on a computer looking at a screen.

Kaleidoscope

changed a bit since my day we used to use a potato

We went out to play and nobody worried really, we were safe and never went far from home.

These are some of the toys from our childhood, see which you had as well.

Bit more sophisticated nowadays

Tiddlywinks, Great fun

Ludo board game, played this for hours

I used to collect these for the pretty colours!!

There were a lot more toys as a kid and even more as we grew up.
So today, let us know what you had, and if you still have any of them.
Post all things toy-related and have a great trip down memory lane.
