🐰🐰The Year of the Rabbit 🐰🐰

Ok, Christmas and New Year are a distant memory now, but today is an important date in the calendar. It is the Chinese New Year and this year is the Year of the Rabbit.

The Rabbit is a symbol of prosperity and peace in their culture and a celebration that is taken very seriously, with people travelling from all over the world to spend time with their families and enjoy the celebrations.

So, as today is the start of the Year of the Rabbit, we are going to look at rabbits in general. They are very cute, furry little things and are great fun to watch.

They can be a pest in the garden, eating plants and digging, and also beware if you are growing carrots!!  But they are very cute and do not deserve to be shot or trapped or poisoned by people who think they have no right to be there.  We used to have a lot of rabbits running around up the track, but sadly now, thanks to "rabbiters" and myxomatosis, there are very few.

Rabbits make great pets and are very intelligent and fun to have. They come in different sizes and shapes.

They are very intelligent and love doing things, or they get bored. They really need a companion and not just be shut up in a hutch 24/7 with food given to them. They should have the freedom they would experience in the wild. Freedom of a garden and house. They are easily trained to use a litter tray and aren't anywhere near as messy using it as cats are. They will run around, follow you, and even help with things like letter opening, then all of a sudden they have had enough and just crash.

There are a lot of famous rabbits as well. Obviously, Bugs Bunny is the most famous. Other famous rabbits include the waistcoat-wearing White Rabbit from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Peter Rabbit, and of course, Roger Rabbit, and don’t forget there is Rabbit in the Winnie the Pooh stories. Everybody has heard of Harvey the White Rabbit and the Rabbits in Watership Down, and who can forget the Easter Bunny!!

They need a balanced diet like all animals and some TLC and cuddles from time to time, but they make good companions.

So, let's have some fun with rabbits today!
