🌷💐🌹Spring Bank Holiday🌷💐🌹
Well, today is Spring Bank Holiday which always falls on the last Monday in May.
It is a day off for most people in the UK. It is also called the late May bank holiday.
The Spring Bank Holiday was established in 1971 as part of the Banking and Financial Dealings Act. It is celebrated on the last Monday in May, generally, but there have been a few times it has been moved. For example, in 2022, it was changed to Thursday 2nd June in honour of the Platinum Jubilee of her late Majesty, and it created a 4-day long weekend.
Before the Spring Bank Holiday, May Day was celebrated in the UK by labour unions and socialist groups. But it is an entirely different day and has roots in pagan celebrations of spring.
The Spring Bank Holiday was established as a way to give people in the UK an additional day off work, and now is a good time to use it to take a short break somewhere.
There are many ways to celebrate it. Some take a short holiday, cos they get the extra day, while others stay at home, and some idiots decide that sitting in a traffic jam for a good few hours is the best way to spend the day.
There are often local events going on as well. One of the villages near us has a fete that is very well attended.
Generally, it is a day to spend with family and friends and to celebrate the arrival of Spring.
So what are you doing today? Anything different or interesting? Do you have a special meal, or do you treat it as just another day?
Today, let's post all things to do with the Spring Bank Holiday and Spring and have some fun and a nice relaxing day!
All are welcome.
