Remembrance Day
Today is the eleventh day of the eleventh month, and at the eleventh hour, a two-minute silence will be observed to acknowledge and honour the many people who made the ultimate sacrifice in all human conflicts down the years. And not just those who gave their lives, but those who were injured or suffered mental problems as a result of warfare.
And many animals were, and continue to be, a part of human conflict. They, too, deserve to be remembered. As this memorial says, they had no choice.
Poppies, like those from Flanders Fields, are the symbol of this day, and there will be many events and displays at memorials, pubs and community centres around the country today.
But nothing like the "Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red" display at the Tower of London in 2014, which commemorated the centenary of World War I with 888,246 ceramic red poppies. One for each service person killed.
So, today, let’s make our own memorial to all of those people and animals who gave their all so that the rest of us could live in peace in a free country with appropriate gifs, memes, images or music.
