🍷🏺National Wine Day🍷🏺

It's my favourite day, lol.
Most of us drink wine at some point, whether it is to be sociable, with a meal, at an event, or even to relax in the evening after a hard day at the office.

Sweet, dry, red, white, fizzy, or flat, it is one of the most loved alcoholic tipples there is. There is nothing like the sophisticated and often sassy glass of wine. Well, today it is time to enjoy a glass of wine, just because.

Wine has been around for yonks, and dates way back to 7000 BC.

Today, wine is one of the most widely produced and consumed drinks in the world.  There are so many different sorts to choose from from various countries. and some have amusing names as well. Here are some of the most popular wines in the world:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon. Red. This French-origin grape was first made famous by the wines of Bordeaux.

  • Merlot. Red.

  • Airén. White.

  • Tempranillo. Red.

  • Chardonnay. White.

  • Syrah. Red.

  • Garnacha. Red. .

  • Sauvignon Blanc. White.

Here are a few fun facts about wine:

  • Back in the day, women could be killed for drinking wine! Yes, in the early Roman times, a husband was at liberty to kill his wife if he found her drinking wine. It was a forbidden drink for women.

  • Speyer, Germany, is home to the oldest bottle of wine in the world. It is on display at the historical museum in the town, and it dates back to an impressive AD 325.

  • Have you ever toasted to everyone’s health? This is something that comes from Ancient Greek tradition. The dinner host would have the first sip of wine to assure his guests that the drink was not poisoned.

  • To get the exact quantity of antioxidants that you get in wine, you would have to drink seven glasses of orange juice, or if you prefer apple juice, you would need 20 glasses!

  • The oldest known wine cellar is actually on the famous ship, Titanic. We know what you’re thinking; the Titanic sunk! However, when divers when down to the wreckage, they were surprised to see that most of the wine bottles were still intact.

  • Surprisingly, some people are actually scared of wine! It is known as oenophobia.

So to celebrate today, go treat yourself to a bottle of wine and invite a few friends round for the evening.

There is no need to spend a lot of money on a bottle of wine for social drinking, or to go with your evening meal, there are some excellent cheap wines around nowadays, and why be a wine snob. You drink whatever wine you like with anything you eat. It doesn't have to be red wine with red meat, again just being a wine snob, which I have no time for at all. They tend to be very boring and take the enjoyment out of a nice glass of wine. So go buy that bottle, or two, of wine, and have some friends round, or relax in front of the tv with a nice glass of wine, but whatever you do, enjoy it!

All are welcome.
