🥜National Peanut Month🥜

March is National Peanut Month. I am told there is something in peanuts that makes them moreish. I’m afraid it doesn't work with me, but I know people love them.
You can buy them salted, unsalted and in their shells, and I imagine the most popular is salted.  They are well worth a celebration as they are so popular all over the world.

Peanuts, unfortunately, do not suit everybody and are one of the most common and violent, and sometimes fatal, allergies in the world. Fortunately, today this allergy is taken very seriously.

Peanuts are not, in fact a nut, they are a legume, and this month is dedicated to this delicious little legume that is a vital part of culture and cuisine.

This month was introduced by the National Peanut Board, and peanuts are packed with all sorts of nutrients and vitamins and are one of the richest sources of antioxidants in the world, better than carrots, green tea or broccoli.

Peanuts have a place in cuisine all over the world, in dishes from basic snacks, appetizers, main courses, and even desserts. In Israel, they even have a Cheez Doodle type snack called Bamba Puffs, which are essentially the same snack only flavoured with peanut butter instead of cheese.

In the American South, it isn’t uncommon to drop a handful of peanuts into a bottle of coke for flavouring, and apparently, the flavour is the perfect blend of salty, sweet, fizzy, and crunchy.
Really, these little legumes have a lot to offer. Nobody can forget that delicious peanut butter, either.

They were first found in Peru some 8,000 years ago and from there, the peanut was spread around the world by traders in Europe, and is cultivated in almost every area where the climate suits.

So, to celebrate this month, the best way is to simply eat some peanuts in one form or another, peanut toffee, peanut crunch, peanut butter, or just peanuts themselves.  You could make the eating of peanuts last quite a few days lol!

Of course, do not deny this delicious legume from our wildlife friends either. Squirrels love them and so do most garden birds

Ok, we will have some peanut fun. Love them or hate them, let us know and post anything peanut related.

All are welcome.
And please feel free to share all discussions you enjoy.
