🧀🍕🫕National Cheese Day🧀🍕🫕
Today is National Cheese Day. Most people love cheese, but some, as with a lot of things, can't eat it for health reasons.
It is such a versatile food and can be used in a variety of recipes as well as toppings for things like pizza.
Who doesn't enjoy some good quality cheese and biscuits after a meal?
National Cheese Day was first established in 1914 in Monroe, Wisconsin and has been celebrated every other year since then. In Monroe, it is celebrated in style. They have been known to have 2-hour parades, music, stands, crafts, carnival rides, restaurants and food to enjoy. Sounds great to me. If you don't live near Monroe, see if there are any celebratory events near you.
Today is to learn about cheese, apart from eating it, to be educated about the food and to encourage people to try different cheeses and recipes.
To celebrate today and have some fun, why not have a cheese-tasting party? Get everybody to bring a different type of cheese and wine and have some fun.
If you are lucky enough to have a proper cheese shop near you, go visit that and ask for some tasters, they will be only too happy to oblige Then treat yourself to something you really liked
Cook a meal with cheese in it.
Learn about different types of cheese from all over the world, and don't be afraid to try them. Here are a few if you can find them:
Olomouc Cheese from the Czech Republic. This cheese is a bit infamous due to the fact that it comes with such a strong (some would say stinky!) odour. Walk into any shop that sells it, and it’s the first thing anyone can smell! Named after the city in Moravia where it originated, this is a ripened soft cheese that has been made for more than 600 years.
Drunken Goat Cheese from Spain. This is made by curing unpasteurized goat cheese in red wine for approximately 48-72 hours. It’s a semi-firm cheese that is also known as Murcia al Vino, indicating the type of goat it is made from.
Gjetost Cheese (“yay-toast”) from Norway. This unique cheese is made from a blend of cow’s milk and goat’s milk. It comes in a block and has a dark orange, almost brownish color that makes it look like chocolate. Plus, it’s a little sweet so it tastes a bit like caramel fudge–perfect with a cup of coffee!
So, today, let's enjoy some decent cheese. There are so many different ones to choose from, and we all have our favourites, but please make sure you buy cheese, not things that they call cheese, like slices and little triangles in a box. It is worth paying extra for good quality cheese!
Let's post all things cheese-related, pics, music, gifs etc. and let us know your favourite cheese and whether you love or hate cheese.
All are welcome.
And please feel free to share all discussions you enjoy.
