🎃🕷️Happy Halloween🎃🕷️
Today is Halloween, and that is a shortened version of Hallows’ Evening, which comes from the Scottish for “Saints Evening”. It is the day before the Christian feast day of All Hallows’ Day on 1st November, also called All Saints Day. For Christians, this is the start of the three days long All Hallowtide, when the faithful dead, saints and martyrs are remembered. It goes back as far as the ancient Celtic harvest festivals.
Its activities include apple dunking, bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted places and trick or treating.
Halloween has taken off in the UK a lot more in recent years, following the Americans I think. I personally don't agree with trick or treating as it is a form of blackmail and begging, and the tricks now get taken to an evil level at times.
To celebrate it, you can decorate your house with all manner of horror stuff, and create a jack-o-lantern outside your door. These days, pets can also join in with a whole range of pet Halloween costumes to choose from! You can make your home look really spooky as well. Before pumpkins became widespread, turnips were carved into Jack O’ Lanterns, which are meant to ward off evil spirits.
So, today, let’s have some Halloween fun and let us know if you celebrate it or not. I certainly don’t.
Post anything Halloween related and make the day, spooky and scary!
All are welcome.
And please feel free to share all discussions you enjoy.
