🐍 Happy Chinese New Year 🐍

It is now day two of the Lunar New Year, more commonly called the Chinese New Year, but as we had a different kind of celebration yesterday, we are seeing in the Lunar New Year today!
And this year, it is the year of the snake!

People born in the year of the snake are considered mysterious, intelligent, wise, good at talking, determined, and caring. They love to learn, work hard to achieve goals, and are very loyal to people they care about.

The Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival. It has been celebrated in China for thousands of years.

It is a time of renewal, so it centres on removing the bad and the old and welcoming the new and the good. It's a time to worship ancestors, exorcise evil spirits and pray for a good harvest.

People will clean their houses just before the New Year to remove dirt, rubbish and other unwanted items. They will redecorate them with red lanterns and new furniture and shop for celebratory foodstuffs.
The New Year is a family reunion occasion, so those living or working far away will typically return home before the holiday.

Lanterns, dragon dances, and firecrackers are an important part of the celebration, as are food and drink.

Many favourite dishes are eaten as they symbolise prosperity, health and abundance for the coming year.

  • Noodles

  • Citrus fruit

  • Sweet rice balls

  • Spring rolls

  • Chicken

  • Fish

  • Dumplings

  • Sticky rice cakes

  • Leafy greens like spinach, lettuce, and pak choi (bok choy).

It’s a wonderfully colourful festival, with lucky red everywhere!

Let’s celebrate the Year Of The Snake with music, images, gifs and videos.
And feel free to share some food, too! πŸ˜‹
