🥧🥟British Pie Week 🥧🥟
Well, this week is British Pie Week, and I am pretty sure it is something we all eat from time to time.
Savoury or sweet, the pie has been around in different forms since the ancient Egyptians. Today, British people are well known for their love of pies and the amazing selection that there is, from the humble meat pie to the more exotic dessert pie.
This week, you are encouraged to eat pie, no, not every day, as they are slightly unhealthy shall we say. You could even try and make a pie from scratch; they aren't that difficult. Plenty of simple recipes online, and you could cheat and buy ready-made pastry.
Believe it or not, this week was founded by Jus-Rol, who I am sure you have all heard of. They make all sorts of pastry for pies. It was founded back in 2007, but since 2016 Pierate has taken over the holiday, baked hundreds of pies and shared the recipes online with their followers.
Statistics by Jus-Rol state that around 75% of us enjoy a pie at least once a month. That is not quite true, really, I wouldn't imagine, but I know it is good winter food.
This week, people go to local events to watch pie making and have free tasters and recipes to enjoy. So why not see if there is anything around where you live? It could be a fun day out.
Whether it is a chicken and leek pie, beef and ale, or a sweet one like Bilberry, people love them.
Homemade pies are the best it has to be said, but there are some excellent shop-bought ones around but don't be fooled into buying cheap ones, or things like Pukka pies or some own shop-brand ones, which can be pretty naff, or you will play hunt the filling.
A Pork Pie needs to be made in Melton Mowbray. They are by far the best you can buy. Lovely with some pickle and a salad in the summer.
So this week, have a go at making some pies, and try different recipes and see which you prefer.
To start with a classic pie recipe is the best, a mini pork pie, chicken and mushroom, beef and ale or even things like a venison pie. And don't forget pies freeze well.
Today, let us have your thoughts on the simple British pie, and what is your favourite?
Post all things pie-related, music, pics, gifs etc. together with a recipe for your favourite filling if you have one. And don’t forget to eat some pie!!
All are welcome.
And please feel free to share all discussions you enjoy.
